[노트펫] 긴 보호소 생활에 모든 걸 체념한 듯한 개에게 일어난 기적이 감동을 전하고 있다고 지난 15일(이하 현지 시각) 미국 시사주간지 뉴스위크가 보도했다.

미국 텍사스주 에덴부르그의 한 유기동물보호소는 지난달 26일 공식 틱톡 계정을 통해 한 편의 영상을 게시해 화제가 됐다.

@lifesavingpixie Maror’s adoption fee is waived! He’s already neutered, potty trained, and incredibly social — he gets along with everyone he meets. While he’s available for adoption, we want to mention that he seems somewhat bonded to his kennel mate, Matzo. They came into the shelter together and have been inseparable since. 공개된 영상 속에는 가족을 찾는 유기견 '마로르(Maror)'와 녀석의 친구인 '맛초(Matzo)'의 모습이 담겼다.

꼬리를 흔들고 활발하게 움직이는 맛초와 다르게 멍한 눈으로 한 곳을 응시하는 마로르. 모든 걸 체념한 듯한 녀석의 표정이 안타깝기만 한데.

보호소에 따르면, 녀석은 약 700일이라는 긴 시간 동안 보호소에 머물렀다. 다른 강아지들이 하나둘 입양을 떠났을 때도 녀석은 선택받지 못해 계속해 보호소에 남겨져야 했다.

마로르는 중성화 수술을 받고 배변 훈련까지 받았으며 사교적인 성격이라 어느 가정에도 잘 어울릴 수 있었지만, 어떤 이유에서인지 아무도 녀석을 선택하지 않았다.

하나 다행인 것은 마로르에게 맛초라는 좋은 친구가 있다는 것. 둘은 보호소에 함께 온 이후 떼려야 뗄 수없는 '절친' 사이가 돼 서로를 의지했다고 한다.

보호소 측은 두 녀석을 함께 입양 보내주고 싶었지만 쉽지 않았다는데. 그래서 마음은 아프지만 녀석들을 분리해서라도 각자 좋은 가족을 찾아주려고 노력했단다.

그런데 영상이 입소문이 나면서 녀석들에게 기적 같은 일이 벌어졌다. 두 녀석이 함께 입양을 가게 되면서 헤어지지 않게 된 것이다.

둘은 캐나다로 입양됐고, 보호소가 아닌 집에서 가족의 사랑을 하며 영원히 함께 할 수 있게 됐다. 보호소 측은 영상을 통해 "우리는 그들을 정말 그리워할 것이지만, 이것이 그들이 기다리던 행복한 결말입니다"라고 전했다.
